The difference between woven and knitted fabrics（1）

A textile or fabric is a flexible material consisting of a network of natural or man-made yarns. Fabrics are formed by weaving, knitting, crocheting, knotting, or felting. Sources of fabrics include animal (wool, silk), vegetable (cotton, flax, jute), mineral (asbestos, fiberglass) and synthetic (nylon, polyester, acrylic) materials. Weaving is a method of textile production involving the interlacing of a group of long threads.

Knitting, looping and crocheting involve interlacing loops of yarns that are formed on knitting needles, regular needles or crochet hooks. Knitting involves the twisting of threads together to make cloth. Embroidery involves pressing pads of fibers together and working them together until they become entangled. Nonwovens are made by bonding the fibers to create fabric. It is fascinating to notice the needle creating the loop, dipping in and out of each stitch; but after distinguishing the fabric into different categories, there is an intimacy.

Knitwear

Knitwear is produced by using a group of yarns that are twisted through each other. The manufacturing process of knitted fabrics is knitting. Knits are stretchy and can easily be used to construct small pieces, making them ideal for socks and hats. Knits are more durable. These fabrics can be as thin as a mesh or as thick as the fleece of a sweatshirt. Because knitted fabrics have symmetrical yarns on both sides, they can have a slight curl around the edges. The most common fibers used in knit fabrics are cotton and viscose; and these fibers tend to be single knit constructions, and they are used in most T-shirts. Knits are made up of single-color yarns, but there are ways to work in multiple colors; among other things, the yarns can be dyed to produce multi-color products. Knitwear was hand-knitted in the early days, but is now produced on knitting machines or flat knitting machines. t-shirts, polo shirts, underwear or leggings can all be made from knitted fabric.

Knitted Fabrics

Textiles formed by weaving are woven fabrics. Woven fabrics are generally produced on looms and consist of many threads, woven on either warp or weft threads. Two or more threads are interlaced at right angles to each other; producing a woven article. Woven fabrics are stretched only in the diagonal direction. Fabrics can be produced from hand looms to power looms. The fibers of a woven fabric are twisted in such a way as to form a crisscross pattern. Woven fabrics are often used for sewing and their edges need to be properly finished as they can be easily unraveled. Shirts, pants and jeans can all be composed of woven fabrics. Woven fabrics are relatively thick due to the use of two or more yarns.
